A "strangebo"?

It doesn't seem to fit the criteria for a circumhorizontal arc, as the sun was clearly setting, and unlikely to have been at the proper angle.

      I'm told by the Baby Bluebies that it's a "sun dog" -- a reflection of the sun's light from high-altitude ice crystals. Sounds right, to me! But it had a very rainbow-ish quality... the photo doesn't do it justice, as you can barely detect the blue end of the spectrum.
