I was once a big participant in scootnashville.com. Nice buncha folx! We started out being very inclusionary, reaching out to all two-wheel riders.
I even put my own money into trying to do outreach to grow the org. These were tags we'd leave on autobikes/scooters.
The cards had info about weekly meetups and the web site.
While I was there, scootnashville had several nice annual "Blue vs. Grey" rallies. I wasn't in love with the label, but it made some historical sense, and I couldn't convince the folx running it that it might be offensive to some.
Mike Wolf from American Pickers sponsored the first rally, and he paid for the group's breakfast on the closing Sunday, which was nice. Mike had just that summer opened an American Archaeology store in Nashville, and bought a house in Leiper's Fork, near the Natchez Trace, in order to get some quality riding time in.
Just days before that first rally, the Dead Peds moped group put on their big rally, and enlisted the help of former East Side Scooters mechanic Rooster. He hired strippers, installed a pole, and had a party no one will ever forget. No one got naked, no one got out of line (even though many inebriants were consumed) and the tips were generous.
I was never a moped guy, but these folx were intense, and intensely fun. Most of them were 10-30 years younger than me, and most were from the south, but not within 200 miles of Nashville. A dedicated and interesting bunch of people.
Those were the days, my friends.
I loved doing the rides. From the Natchez Trace rides...
... to the "West Side's Best Ride," that I plotted over the course of a year, to...
... multiple rides through Percy Warner Park. The Nashville area had so many great rides in it. I truly miss that!
We had weekly camaraderie (and beer).
We worked on our bikes, together.
We visited some legendary places, together.
We laughed together... a lot!
And we celebrated, together.
But now, I'm in Ohio! What can we do together?
